Event Details:
A 6.9 magnitude (according to, http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquake) or 6.8 magnitude (according to, BMD) earthquake jolted the country on 18 Sep’11. The quake that was felt for nearly two minutes from 6:40:47pm had its epicenter in Sikkim, India. It was the strongest tremor to have hit the region in the last six decades.
Distance of epicenter of the earthquake was 495 km far from Dhaka and the depth of the hypocenter was 19.7 km. There are also two aftershocks after the first tremor.
- First aftershock was happened 31 minutes after first quake at 07:11:57 pm with a magnitude of 4.8 and 45 km distance from first earthquake epicenter and its hypocenter was 20 km.
- The second aftershock was felt after 43 minutes after first quake at 07:54:18 pm. The epicenter was 15 km distance from first earthquake with magnitude of 4.6 and the hypocenter was 20.1km.
